Bugs?!? What the heck?!?

This was a bit surprising: bugs! I am certainly no insect expert, but these did not look like termites to me. The wood on which they were crawling had no visible signs of being eaten, and it was sturdy enough to bang against without any problem. I used some kind of standard bug killer on these guys, mainly so I would not be bitten by whatever they were.
I would probably recommend getting something like this looked at by a professional. On the other hand, this didn't seem to pose a big problem to me at the time since no real damage was apparent.
