A Closer View of the Furrdown
Furrdowns were a popular thing of the 70's and 80's, but in my mind they are a complete waste of space. As you can see here, cabinets used to hang from each side of the furrdown. This created a narrow "corridor" feel to this galley-style kitchen. Frankly, it was depressing. Not to mention the cabinets were half the height that they could have been, had the furrdown been gone and they fully extended to the ceiling.
This view also gives a glimpse of things to come: see the A/C duct and the electrical wires? During the continued demolition phase, these had to be duly noted. The best thing to do, which I did, is to turn off the breaker before even attempting something like this. In this shot, there is no electricity running in the whole house.
